Matt’s Pick: The Politics of Sex
There’s not much we can reveal about tonight’s top-secret, game-changing twist on Scandal that wouldn’t land us on killer Huck’s hit list. So we’ll let unimpeachable source - Tony Goldwyn, who plays President Fitzgerald Grant - do the talking.
“When I read what happens, I couldn’t believe it,” he says. “You think, “How the heck are we gonna get out of this?”Fortunately, Fitz has a professional fixer - true love Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington, above with Goldwyn) on speed dial. But for how long?
While the drama’s morally murky commander-in-chief has elected to divorce Mellie (Bellamy Young), the desperate First Lady is about to deliver a surprise designed to halt that plan.
“Mellie really is the Lady Macbeth in this story,” Goldwyn says. “She observes no boundaries and will do whatever it takes to maintain her grip on Fitz and hold on to the White House.”
This isn’t exactly good news for FitzLiva fans. Rest assured that Goldwyn, who will step behind the camera to direct an episode later this season, feels your pain. “Olivia is the one person on the planet he trusts and has total faith in,” the actor says.
But will that change if he discovers that she helped rig the election that secured him the presidency?
“If and when Fitz ever finds out,” says Goldwyn, handling the question with the ease of a veteran politician, “his entire world will collapse. The result would be more extreme than any audience member can imagine.”
“Olivia’s lifted him up to be the man he always knew he could be,” Goldwyn says. “Without her, things don’t look so good.”

Best news ever right, Gladiators? However that Fitz and Olivia promo photo is unfortunately a flashback moment. It’s not a present day Olitz moment. Anyone else read this interview in TG’s voice? Let me stop being so messy.
Sound off Gladiators!
