Observations:

  • Quinn AND Harrison is not here for Hollis being OPA’s client. Look at Quinn’s face. Look at Harrison! Not a warm welcome at all! Look at Abby and Olivia looking at Quinn.

(GIF H/T: castlebeckett)

  • Jake’s using a classic Olivia Pope line, You don’t know me, right before he reaches in for a kiss. Remember that’s the same thing she said to him way back when. Receipts…

Seeing Olivia Pope completely bare like this as that special music played in the background made for great Scandal moment, did it not? This is the Olivia Pope we rarely see. This is the Olivia Pope she doesn’t allow anyone especially her gladiators in a suit to see. Nicely done, Kerry Washington, nicely done.

  • Mellie’s trying to convince Fitz that Olivia’s using him? Oh Mellie! Mellie if anything Olivia’s helping him.  The Scandal SWS (Shade While Smiling) is in effect and Mellie doesn’t have a clue. She’ll do anything to have her seat at the big table including lying.
  • David is lurking in the background there when Abby and Olivia’s jaw dropped when they saw that surprise on the OPA conference table.  Huck is holding up an ear at the bloody crime scene. WTF! David’s living with OPA or David is seeking shelter OPA?
  • Jake not only broke into Olivia’s apartment but he’s seen doing two things – placing a camera inside her apartment and unhooking a camera. This man!
  • Hucklberry Quinn goes out to investigate the bloody scene. Hollis’ kidnapped daughter holds up an envelope with a bank account on it.
  • Harrison doesn’t think that Hollis’ daughter was kidnapped for nothing.

Spoiler TV shares this about 217….

Scandal - Episode 2.17 - Snake in the Garden
Hollis Doyle’s daughter is kidnapped; Jake and Olivia take their relationship to the next level; Cyrus is determined to get back into the president’s good graces; Mellie tells Fitz that he needs to make some changes.

Scott Foley on portraying Liv’s interest & whether his secret will be revealed to THR

THR: Considering Olivia’s interest in Jake, could we see the Gladiators look into who this guy is?
Foley: That would be a smart play on her part and on the Gladiators’ part. Although she just thinks he’s a guy she ran into in a coffee shop, it happened to be that the woman who died was doing some work for him. She looks at that as a coincidence. However, should she in the future have certain suspicions about him? I wouldn’t doubt that she would put Huck (Guillermo Diaz) on the case.

Jake’s true colors will be revealed according to Ask Ausiello. (Side note: We already saw Jake giving us a taste of his true nature by knocking out the photographer AND smiling at his hidden camera in Olivia’s apartment.)

Question: Not loving this Scandal hiatus. Not loving it at all. Gimme something to tied me over until March 21. —Jay
Ausiello: Jake will start showing his true colors. And they are multiple shades of extremely freakin’ dark.

The Grant Kids is Coming Soon and it may be this episode or the upcoming ones…

We already discussed that the young woman’s bedroom may be Karen’s who will come into the Scandal world by 218/219. (H/T: AliasVaughn)

Scott Foley shares ALL of this to TV Guide…

We’ve seen in the promo that a photographer takes a picture of Olivia and Jake together. That would obviously compromise Jake’s standing with the President if that got out. What lengths will he go to fix this situation?
Foley:
Jake needs to be very careful. He’s doing something here by using Olivia not just as a source, but as a potential love interest that is way outside his purview. It’s something that the President would definitely not approve of. I think it’s going to be interesting to find out what lengths Jake will go to to make sure that any photo or any evidence of his relationship with Liv is not in the public.

Do you think he feels bad lying to the President?
Foley:
I don’t think he feels bad deceiving the President. I think he knows that the President has, like Jake does, ulterior motives when it comes to Olivia.

It seems only inevitable that Olivia will find out the truth about Jake’s true motives. How will Jake handle that?
Foley:
It does seem inevitable. If and when it does happen, it’s hard for it to go down in any way that it could be positive for their relationship. Now, that being said, if I were to speak about an imaginary relationship that began with stalking and cameras in someone’s apartment and that person found out, I would put a lot of money on the fact that it’s not going to end well. Wouldn’t you? [Laughs] Imagine dating a guy and you really like him and he’s cute and sweet and has a good job — in this economy, he’s got a great job! — then you find out that he’s had cameras in every room of your house watching you for who knows how long. Could you continue a relationship with that person?

Scandal Scoop: Is Billy Chambers really dead?

But the President told him to do it!
Foley:
I couldn’t agree more! That’s the excuse right? That’s how he’ll get off the hook, right? “Hey, it’s my job! I’m following orders. I’m a military man. The highest commander in the military has ordered me to do this. It’s my job to do so.” I would play that excuse out for as long as I f—-ing could. [Laughs]

You’re used to playing good guys, so what has it been like playing this morally ambiguous guy? And do you think he’s actually a good guy?
Foley:
It’s been a challenge. I’m used to a different type of character. It’s been an interesting challenge that I’ve enjoyed. Everyone thinks he’s a bad guy and morally questionable, I don’t know if I agree with that. We’re going to find out that he’s in a position that’s hard to get out of and maybe he wishes that he could get out of it. There’s so many more layers and ways to play a character and options you have when you’re going into a scene. It’s been so interesting. The Twitter universe has erupted on both sides of the fence, vitriol and praise. I love that.

Will we ever get to see more of his background, maybe even going back to when the President first enlisted him to spy on Olivia?
Foley:
I don’t know if we’re going to get to see that far back, but we’re going to find out a little bit more about who he is, where he’s from and why he’s doing what he’s doing; not necessarily in regards to the President and their relationship, but his place in the world and why he’s there. That’s going to answer a lot of questions for people.

Are you rooting for Jake and Olivia?

Also from TV Guide….

Rule No. 1 when visiting the Hollywood set of Scandal: Be prepared for anything. Even the sight of hacked-off human body parts.

On a Thursday evening in late February, crisis fixer extraordinaire Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) is taking a meeting in her well-appointed Washington, D.C., office with a client she’d be forgiven for refusing to represent — Hollis Doyle (Gregg Henry). The big-oil schemer not only framed Pope & Associates’ newest recruit, Quinn (Katie Lowes), for murder, but also embroiled Olivia herself in a conspiracy to rig an election that put Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn), the man she desperately loves, in the White House. Yet here she is, a gladiator in an impeccably tailored Armani suit, agreeing to help Hollis fight a personal battle that will take a grisly turn, if the severed ear in the conference room is any indication. Which, by the way, doesn’t even come close to being the most killer twist in this episode.
