Overall look -

Scandal fans got a special treat during the unveiling of ABC’s new fall programming this week with an exclusive sneak peek at the show’s explosive season finale. Trust us, something shocking is about to happen to Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) and it goes way beyond the White House mole Pope’s “Gladiators” have been hunting down (and whose identity will finally be revealed!). But, let’s face it, what we’ve all really been waiting to see is what will happen between the steamiest twosome on TV, Olivia and Fitz, now that their affair is going public. Luckily, Scandal’s brilliant costume designer Lyn Paolo gave us some inside scoop on tonight’s finale—and a lesson in power dressing! Contrasting last week’s darker tones, Paolo told us you can expect to see her in lighter hues. “It has been a long time since she has been this certain of her relationship with Fitz and suddenly we are back in lighter suits,” she told InStyle.com exclusively. Case in point: The pale blue Armani jacket over a cream Natori shell Olivia wears in her office (above). In true Scandal fashion though, nothing is as it seems and, “by the end of the episode, Olivia is a gladiator in a white Tom Ford jacket with crisp clean lines and a tight clasp holding in her mid-line,” Paolo said. “Her waist is accentuated and her shoulders look broad enough to carry any weight.” The weight of the presidency no doubt. Cliffhangers somehow seem easier to take in Tom Ford. Tune in to Scandal tonight at 10 p.m. EST on ABC for the dramatic season finale. We. Can’t. Wait.

Olivia Pope Fashion in “Any Questions”

For Any Questions, Lyn Paolo (Scandal’s amazing costume designer) dressed Kerry Washington’s Olivia Pope in darker colors as she explained to Instyle.com:

“We used darker tones in [Olivia’s] costume to reflect the dark undertones of her soon-to-be-made decisions. Olivia is torn, should Fitz give up everything for her, will it work, how can they be together without destroying his Presidency?”

Anyone caught how Fitz put on his tie by himself while Olivia didn’t put on her signature Gladiator armor post-Olitz glow? Jessica Andrews of Glamazons Blog has a recap of what Olivia Pope wore in Scandal221….

Hats off to Lyn Paolo and Kerry Washington!

What Olivia Pope worn in Any Questions. Last night I caught onto how Olivia Pope isn’t wearing her signature Gladiator Armor and I’m glad that Lyn Paolo explained the reason behind that to Instyle.com.

The hunt for the White House mole continues and—more importantly!—Olivia (Kerry Washington) and Fitz’s (Tony Goldwyn) relationship is about to get real on this week’s all-new episode of ABC’s hit political drama Scandal. With so many heavy situations at hand, costume designer Lyn Paolo reflected the plotline by using subtle cues when dressing Washington. “We used darker tones in [Olivia’s] costume to reflect the dark undertones of her soon-to-be-made decisions,” Paolo told InStyle.com. Case in point: The outfit shown here, which includes a navy blue Christian Dior satin jacket, pale pink Ferragamo coat, tan Prada purse, and light gray Armani pants. “Olivia is torn, should Fitz give up everything for her, will it work, how can they be together without destroying his Presidency?” added Paolo. We can’t wait to watch what happens as things heat up!

Looking back now, Olivia’s fashion pick is further proof of her standing down and letting Fitz be in control. She wears the white hat/white jacket when she’s about to handle/gladiate/fix THINGS. This is just further proof at how amazing Lyn Paolo truly is.
