@LynPaolo - Today and have a big costume fitting!!!!!

Lyn Paolo and Kerry Washington had a BIG costume fitting for Scandal episode 219.

These two are creatively talented at bringing IT for Olivia Pope style.

Remember the last BIG costumes Olivia wore especially in “Boom Goes the Dynamite”, “Defiance”, and “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?” I can’t wait to see what they’ll decide that she’ll wear NEXT!

POPE & Glory - Undressing TV’s best-dressed fixer, Olivia Pope

Scandal’s costume designer Lyn Paolo caught up with The New York Post to talk about Olivia Pope fashion. I love that statement - “she is dressed in primetime’s most beautiful body armor — fashioned by the likes of Armani, Valentino, Gucci, Prada and Movado.” Admit it - Olivia Pope’s style is consistently on point!

High-Powered crisis management requires quick thinking and, it turns out, a killer wardrobe.

That’s why, when Olivia Pope — the lead character in “Scandal” played by Kerry Washington — does battle as Washington DC’s top crisis PR expert, she is dressed in primetime’s most beautiful body armor — fashioned by the likes of Armani, Valentino, Gucci, Prada and Movado.

There is nothing ordinary — and certainly nothing that screams inside-the-Beltway conservative — about Olivia Pope’s style.

“How do you express that you’re very powerful and strong in a very male-oriented world — which DC is — without wearing what all the women there tend to wear, which is red, blue and dark tones?” says “Scandal” costume designer Lyn Paolo.

“How do you make someone the focus in a room full of men wearing suits? It’s very simple: You put her in something white.”

Or taupe, or soft gray.

Paolo hints that starting next week, fans will see a shift in Pope’s style as she begins a new relationship: a little more color, a little flirtier.

The shoes reflecting the change will be by Manolo Blahnik, the designer made famous by “Sex and the City.”

“They will have much more of a kitten heel,” says Paolo, “about 2 1⁄2”, with a pointed toe. Very 1950s.”

Are you ready for the new changes made to Olivia Pope’s style? All new Scandal returns on March 21st with “Top of the Hour” PLUS the cast will live tweet TONIGHT for the encore presentation of “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.”

There’s much to love about Scandal, from its fiery romances to its nasty political maneuverings. And at the center of this wonderful craziness is Kerry Washington’s Olivia Pope — gutsy, brilliant, and incredibly powerful. Also, she wears suits! Lots of suits, lots of separates, and all within a very limited color palette of white, gray, beige, greige, black, and the very rare glimpses of ultra-pale pastels. We see Olivia in white suits pretty often, but she’s more likely to be found in a gray suit or jacket this season, perhaps reflecting that she’s in a position of moral ambiguity. (Or maybe it just looks great.) Journey with us through every single thing we’ve seen Olivia Pope wear in the second season of Scandal, won’t you?

Love their reaction to Olivia’s “Defiance” Jean Fares Couture dress, her Escada dress and Olivia’s elbow-length gloves.

Kerry Washington on some of the thinking behind Olivia’s look:

* ”She’s so tough and hard that we wanted to make sure that the clothes were softer.”

* ”From a storytelling point of view, I think it helps to have Olivia in white, in a color of innocence. Because even though she’s not always innocent, she’s always coming from a place of good intention.”

* ”In all the flashback episodes, all of the designers are American. Because when you work at the White House, it’s important that you wear American designers. So you have a lot of Ralph Lauren and Michael Kors. Whereas in the … modern-day Olivia, we have a lot of European designers. Because now that she works on her own, she can wear more Gucci, Escada, Valentino, Louboutin, Chloe.”

* ”The biggest thing I’ve learned in playing Olivia is the importance of tailoring. Because we really take everything and make sure that it has the right fit. Nothing is off the hanger… . I would say to every woman, always, find a local tailor. It doesn’t have to be someone who’s [expensive]. Your clothes should fit you.” (Philly.com)

Further proof on how amazing Lyn Paolo and Kerry Washington are with Olivia Pope Fashion!

The Olivia Pope Stance - When Olivia’s ‘gladiating’ she adapts this stance. Whether she’s sitting or simply standing the stance is consistent with her Gladiator Armor. She’s always in control of any situation she’s in. It was ever consistent in “Boom Goes the Dynamite.” Nicely done, Kerry Washington, nicely done!

I was surprised that she was dressed in something so revealing: her nipples are visible. Please know I’m not trying to be sleazy but pointing out that Olivia chose to wear that dress knowing that she’d see him at the gala.

Yes, she did. Liv knew what she was doing, from choosing the gown to playing up her phone call with Jake. She knew Fitz was watching and put on quite a show.

Did Fitz even get to see the back?! Dude may have leaped over some tables if he had. This dress is bad.

Re-Blogging for the amazing Gladiator commentary! The fandom’s consistently on IT! Gotta love it. (And yes this gif still hasn’t gotten old for me.)
