#Scandal Parallels - Olitz Analysis

Olivia Pope: You left me all alone.

Fitz: You were all I had. You ruined me.

There were SO many insightful Olitz parallels going on in the sneak preview from #Scandal219 “Seven Fifty-Two” that it motivated me to create a collage highlighting just a few! I will say this that I love you has the same emotions like “Hi”, does it not?

I don’t believe in love at first sight but I do believe in seeing someone from across the room and knowing instantly that they’re going to matter to you. They’re going to play a major role in your life.

Fitz knew from the first second he saw her that she was the one.   Period.  And it scared the shit out of him because he had made all these plans and they just went *poof* the moment he saw her.  lol

The look on his face in the fourth gif said it all to me! It was this moment that Fitz knew he was gone and this is precisely why this is my favorite Scandal moment of all time and it’s my favorite Scandal episode. It hit Olivia too then and there but the hallway moment cemented it for her.

I think Olivia was so focused on the job that she didn’t notice what had happened and why Fitz was freaking out.  When she was in the hallway and he called her astute and that he’d be lucky to have her?   That’s when it got real for her.   That when she fell into his eyes just as hard as he fell into hers.   Like magnets.

You’re absolutely right. She was definitely focused on the job and she might have overlooked all of the deliciousness that is in gif #4 but when she caught his eyes in the hallway it was a wrap. It became all too real and that moment cemented Olitz as we all know it.

They were in sync in that hallway moment with finishing sentences and life hasn’t been the same since. Life for Olitz became “I watch for you.”

This second hallway scene though…

“Every feeling is controlled by the look on your face.” sighs!

They seem to have really significant moments in their relationship in hallways.   And it makes sense because hallways represent both openness and connection but also a bit of secrecy.  You have to pick which path to choose in a hallway.  It always leads to somewhere else but isn’t the destination itself.   Every single really big moment or decision between them happens in hallways.  True facts.  lol

Milton Song you have me pulling out Olitz hallway receipts because you are absolutely right. This is why I gave you a tag on my Tumblr. You are on it especially when you said this: They seem to have really significant moments in their relationship in hallways.   And it makes sense because hallways represent both openness and connection but also a bit of secrecy.

Am I missing any Olitz hallway moments? Can anyone of Scandal’s amazing GIF Makers do a gif set of Olitz’s hallway moments, pretty please???

I don’t have gifs but the WH hallway scene where they do the Sally Hemmings/ Thomas Jefferson comment also counts.

And the hallway scene where he grabbed her hand and pulled her into her room for the “20 minutes” scene (211).

But such excellent points all around! Milton, you genius goddess you!!!!!!!!!

How can I forget the delicious prelude to 20 Minutes?

Good catch!

#Scandal Analysis – The Grant Gap Returns + Pretending & Love

“It’s Not Oprah.”

Last season I highlighted on the huge physical GAP Mellie and Fitz had. In Molly, You in Danger Girl, it returned back tenfold.  The HUGE gap between Mellie and Fitz symbolizes - as he eloquently best puts it - their  - “dead marriage.” Look at their body language. This is their real self away from the cameras, the public, and the like. They don’t pretend behind closed doors.

I’ll let Olivia Pope explain the Grant Gap to you:

“From the outside it looks cold. Distant. Dead.”

“And right now you and your wife are standing in the doorway three feet apart not looking at each other; letting in the cold air. That’s why you lost Iowa. That’s why you’ll lose New Hampshire.”

I’ll take it a step further and point out the location of Mellie and Fitz’s first public interview since the assassination attempt and the birth of America’s baby. It’s in the Oval Office. Let me repeat that again. It’s in the Oval Office. For America’s Baby, it’s cool to be interviewed in his nursery but for selling the “We’re still so in love after all these years” story, it’s going to be in The Oval to look more “Presidential?!”  If they wanted portray a loving couple like Cyrus wanted it, wouldn’t it be somewhere else more personal than presidential?  If anything the interview should had happened where Cyrus prep them for it. (I’m pointing all of this because seriously how can Olivia not see it? They are selling this story hard.) Am I just reaching on this assumption?

“The President is going to have to address his re-election bid in six weeks. This Interview is everything.” Re-Election fever is coming up. Do you think he’s going to run because all that went down with Defiance or do you think he’s not going to run because he decided what he wanted instead was to be with Olivia?

All I took from their interview was when Fitz said “This girl’s out of my league but somehow I got her number” was two things Fitz said to Olivia. One - “The most honest thing I can say about myself is that I’m a man in love with an incredible woman.” Two – “And I don’t even have your vote.” This isn’t pretending. It’s love. Just look at the evidence…

I’ll leave you with this “One way or another, I think we would have found each other.”

And that is why Fitz was in a reflective mood. “Don’t give up on him if you love him.” “Will she forgive me if she knew?”

He was thinking back to that moment ^^ - the moment life flipped the script when he stopped Olivia in the hallway.

It was just one of those rare moments  - a crossroads where you know, you just know, if you don’t act now, if you let this moment slip away, it will haunt you for the rest of your life.

The moment he realized that this was it. (Take that stolen moments aren’t a life but this was life received!) Olivia stopped him dead in his tracks. All the choices he made leading up to that point flew out of the window. This was also where Olivia had to make the choice between being a Gladiator first and a person second. This was before Defiance happened. This was One Minute before it manifested. This was it.

It all came down to a choice. Fitz chose love - THE love of his life. Olivia chose love. (Look at them in the hallway scene. Look at their faces!) Mellie chose political bang.

And these are my random thoughts. What say you Gladiators? Sound Off!
